History of Okamoto

Okamoto is constantly growing and looking towards the future.

Okamoto was formed from the merger of four companies: Nippon Gum Industries,Ltd., Riken Rubber Co.,Ltd.,and Okamoto Rubber Co., Ltd., with our present name being adopted shortly after the merger.  Okamoto is a cohesive and dynamic enterpise comprised of the ideas and techologies of each of the above companies.  More than 70 years since its foundation, after a long history in the 20th century Okamoto continues to grow by leaps and bounds in 21st century.

Brief history of Okamoto

 

Okamoto
Rubber co., ltd.

January 1934

Established with capital of 50,000 yen at Togoshi-cho in Ebara-ku, Tokyo (currently Hiratsuka in Shinagawa-ku) as Nippon Gum Industries Co., Ltd., manufacturer of rubberized fabrics and raincoats.

 

Nippon Riken
Rubber Co., Ltd.

February 1958

After merging with Riken Rubber Co., Ltd., the reborn company acquired the trading name Nippon Riken Rubber Co., Ltd. Capital 110 million yen.  Riken Rubber Co., Ltd headquarters and factory at Kamiya in Kita-ku became known as the “Tokyo factory.”

 

Okamoto Riken
Rubber Co., Ltd.

February 1968

After merging with Okamoto Rubber Co., Ltd., the company changed its trading name once more to Okamoto Riken Rubber Co., Ltd.  Capital 1.99 billion yen.

 

Okamoto Industries, Inc.

October 1985

A further change of trading name saw Okamoto Riken Rubber Co., Ltd.  shortened to Okamoto Inc.
